Last month, the lovely team at Absurd Bird invited us to their newly opened Bath branch to review the restaurant.
The restaurant opened its doors to the customers in December 2016 in the city centre of Bath. Absurd Bird was created 3 years ago by an entrepreneur with a passion for a food, and an American fine-dining chef who together are passionate about the Deep South and its cuisine. The restaurant is inspired by London’s street food.
Absurd Bird Bath is just 2 minutes walk from Bath train station, if you’re driving there’s a public car park available that is only 2 minutes away from the restaurant. I got to visit the restaurant with 2 of my friends, and we went around lunch time. The atmosphere was very relaxed, casual and friendly, which makes it a perfect destination after a busy afternoon doing shopping with your mother, or to just enjoy a lovely meal with your friends!
The restaurant’s speciality is of course Fried Southern Chicken, but for vegetarians there are lovely options available on the menu. As one of my friends is a vegetarian, she really enjoyed visiting Absurd Bird and this was what she thought…
“The ambience at absurd bird was cosy comforting, I chose the vegetarian options available from the menu, started off with the spinach dip and crackers, absolutely loved this dish, it was light and flavoursome. I also tried the quinoa salad, really enjoyed the addition of mangoes in it! For main course I had the black bean burger, it came with a spicy mayo dressing which was interesting and paired well with the patty, the burger left me feeling full and was a good portion size for one. The drink that I had with my meal was the Mississippi mud cocktail, it was strong and the taste was similar to an Irish cream cocktail. Last but not the least for dessert I enjoyed the cheesecake, it was rich and decadent not silkily sweet and the Oreo base just made it better. Even though there weren’t a lot of vegetarian options available, the few that were, tasted good and the service at Absurd Bird was warm and welcoming, the staff took good care of us and I would definitely go back for some more!” – Natasha Nair.
My other friend also loved the restaurant, and this was what she thought about our visit…
“Excellent service from the beginning to the end. We were welcomed at the door by a warm and friendly Natalie. I absolutely loved the wings and the chicken waffles. The portion sizes were decent and the atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. I will definitely return and recommend Absurd Bird to my friends.” – Nosomi Mdyesha
My favourite item on the menu was the Southern Chicken and Waffles with smoked sweet gravy and maple syrup, the chicken pieces are quite big, crispy from the outside and definitely not dry from the inside. I can’t wait to visit again just to have this dish! The chicken wings are also amazing, you can choose from many different variations from the wingshack along with delicious dips!
There is also a great drinks menu, they do a lot of cocktails and mocktails to choose from… And the best part (after the chicken and waffles) was the desserts!
I honestly can’t choose which dessert was my favourite, as all of the three desserts that we shared were phenomenal! The baked peanut butter cheesecake was creamy and delicious, made with Oreo crust and topped with caramel sauce and walnuts. The crack pie was very tasty, served with clotted cream on the side. And you probably already know my thoughts on chocolate chip cookies that are served with milk = HEAVEN.
I already recommended this restaurant to all of my friends, and I will keep talking about after the great experience that we had. And last but not least, we were very impressed by the friendly and professional staff that made our visit so perfect. Thank you Natalie and Chole.
